Surveillance footage captured a brazen carjacking attempt at a car wash in Frankston, Australia, after a man approached a woman cleaning her vehicle and launched an unprovoked physical assault shortly after 11:00 a.m. on a Thursday morning.
The incident, which unfolded at the Shiners Jet Wash on the corner of Cranbourne Road and Lindrum Road, drew the attention of witnesses and law enforcement after the suspect went on to target additional victims in the surrounding area.
The victim was using a vacuum cleaner to clean the interior of her car when the assailant approached from behind and s.t.r.u.c.k her on the head with a blunt object. The man then demanded she hand over her car keys, escalating what began as a threatening confrontation into a direct physical attack.
According to witness accounts and police reports, the woman managed to break away from the initial assault and attempted to reach her vehicle from the opposite side. The suspect responded by pursuing her and striking her again, continuing his attempt to seize the vehicle.
The owner of the car wash intervened after hearing the woman scream, stepping in to render assistance. Following the intervention, the man fled the scene without obtaining the vehicle or the car keys.
Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing a woman emit piercing screams during the incident, prompting several individuals to alert local authorities. The accounts provided by those present proved instrumental in directing police toward the suspect’s location.
Law enforcement officers subsequently located the suspect aboard a public bus near the scene and placed him under arrest. Authorities confirmed the man was also connected to a separate incident at a nearby store, where he is alleged to have targeted another woman in a similar manner.
Following his arrest, the suspect was charged with multiple offenses stemming from the series of incidents. Formal charges included three counts of attempted carjacking and two counts of serious assault against women, reflecting the sequential nature of the attacks across multiple locations within a short timeframe.
The charges against the defendant underscore the severity of the conduct alleged, as prosecutors moved to address both the violence directed at the victims and the repeated attempts to deprive women of their property through force and intimidation.
